LIMP WRIST & Tax-Deductible Donations--- Now In The Same Sentence

HELLO Blogosphere:

Here's your chance to support Limp Wrist, which I am proud to advertise as an e-zine with queer sensibility. At LW we have a number of goals to accomplish, and I consider the main goal to be to offer a scholarship to an LGBT high school senior via a poetry contest. However, we can't offer a scholarship without your help!

Also, I am in the planning stages regarding a chapbook contest sponsored by LW. I am happy to say a distinguished poet has already agreed to be the judge the chapbook contest once we get to that stage. The contest will be open to homo's and hetero's. It is also a goal of mine to raise enough funds to be able to avoid an entry fee for the contest. If you're in the poetry "business" you know contests can break the bank, and I'm not out to break anyone's bank. I'm out to promote poetry and poets, and I will do everything I can to do so.

Birthday Wreck

Well, on Tuesday I turned 25, and I had a car wreck as well. I suppose I have a talent for doing things with bang. I'm OK; however, I wish I could say the same for my car. Looks like I'll be careless for a few weeks.

Since my 21st birthday I have used my birthday as a "fundraising" event. For the past few years I have collected canned goods and monetary donations for Project Open Hand; however, I am changing it up this year by collecting donations for Grass Roots Institute. If you follow my blog then you have a glimpse of the wonderful organization that is GRI. (f you're new to the blog click here for a previous blog entry with a little information; however, ignore the address at the end because GRI has moved.)

Ms. Aida, GRI founder, is starting a used bookstore for the youth involved in GRI. If you want to do some early spring cleaning by getting rid of some books from your shelves please shoot me an email. I might be willing to take care of shipping expenses. Ms. Aida is also on the lookout for disposable cameras for the youth to use at GRI events; many of the youth involved could benefit from being able to capture the positive memories they make with GRI. As always, school supplies go a long way!

Please contact me if you want to donate to GRI. I'll make sure you receive a receipt to save for tax time.

Team Truvy Registered for AIDS Walk 2007

Today, I registered as team captain of Team Truvy for the Atlanta AIDS Walk 2007. If you are able, interested, and do not have a team, please feel free to join Team Truvy-- the more people, the better we can be.

Here's some information about AID Atlanta from their website:
AID Atlanta is a non-profit, community-based AIDS services organization, serving individuals infected and affected by the AIDS epidemic.

The mission of AID Atlanta is to empower HIV positive Georgians to live independent, productive lives, and to deliver world class educational programs that help stop the spread of HIV by reducing at-risk behaviors in targeted populations.

I think we can all agree, that's a cause worthy of fundraising!

Fundraising with Atlanta Pride

COLLECT & EARN

JOIN THE BUCKET BRIGADE

Volunteers from Community Organizations walk throughout the park and along the parade route and ask folks to give a little or a lot!

WHO GETS THE MONEY?
YOUR ORGANIZATION GETS 50%
and the rest helps pay for the expense of putting on Pride weekend. APC attracts the crowds & supplies the T-Shirts, buckets & I DONATED stickers; you provide the volunteers.

HOW DOES IT WORK?
Throughout the weekend, your group volunteers for at least one, 2 hour minimum shift. Walk through the festival and collect from the 100,000 people who come to the park each day.

For the last 6 years The Atlanta PRIDE Committee has partnered with other organizations to help them fundraise during the PRIDE Festival. This program has allowed APC to move more than $55,000 back into the community.
